Course Overview

This course examines the repetitive and harmful nature of thought patterns that often lead to frustration, anxiety, and depression. It highlights the decline in collective intellectual well-being, using examples such as recent political events and the widespread habit of multitasking. The course argues that dysfunctional thinking is a core contributor to lifestyle-related, preventable chronic diseases like obesity and diabetes. It emphasizes the importance of developing intellectual awareness and discipline as essential steps toward achieving emotional balance, physical health, and a more harmonious life.

This module explores how habits formed through repetition and rooted in thought, shape our identity and behaviors. It emphasizes the subconscious mind’s role in automating habits and draws from martial arts principles to show how disciplined repetition leads to mastery. The connection between habitual thinking and personal growth is at the heart of this lesson.

This module defines intellectual wellness beyond academic intelligence. It explains that while thinking is automatic, ignoring the quality of our thoughts can create a dysfunctional relationship with our intellect. Intellectual wellness involves cultivating personal ethics, a moral compass, and self-awareness, crucial elements for balanced, intentional living.

This module addresses how modern culture’s obsession with productivity and constant information inflow leads to cognitive dysfunction. It outlines symptoms of intellectual burnout, apathy, poor decision-making, cynicism and advocates for critical thinking as a remedy. It promotes mindful information consumption as key to intellectual clarity and resilience.

This module explores how the anti-intellectual movement has caused people to doubt their thinking abilities and defer to external "experts." It emphasizes the need to rebuild trust in our intellect through habits of reflective, functional thinking. It encourages participants to challenge conditioned mental patterns and reclaim personal agency in thought.

"Though we currently have more access to information than ever before in history, we are over relying on the opinion of experts - we are outsourcing our thinking and finding it difficult to decide what the right course of action is"

"Enlightenment is the emergence from a self imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to think for ourselves. It is not a lack of information or knowledge but the lack of indecision or courage to use one’s own mind without another’s guidance"

Emmanuel Kant - 1784
